Airports are more than just transport hubs; they are gateways that welcome travellers and reflect the culture and style of their cities.
Enhancing Airport Functionality with Durable Wooden Floors
Airports are more than just transport hubs; they are gateways that welcome travellers and reflect the culture and style of their cities. In Scandinavia, where wood and wooden floors are a natural part of home design, airports like these use wooden flooring to create a similar warmth and sense of comfort - designing spaces where materials and atmosphere come together to foster well-being. This reflects the Nordic focus on creating social, inviting architectural environments.
We have supplied wooden flooring solutions for the expansions and renovations of several major international and Scandinavian airports, including Copenhagen, Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen, and Arlanda.
These airports are designed with carefully curated spaces that promote social interaction while providing a sense of calm amidst the hustle and bustle. By integrating dining areas, shopping experiences, and hotel accommodations, these designs enhance both functionality and the personal experience of travellers.
Hørning’s commitment to quality is reflected in the beautiful wooden floors we supply, which are as durable as they are unique.
Next time you're in an airport, we hope our floors contribute to a welcoming atmosphere that makes travellers feel at home, even amidst transit - showcasing the power of material choices to create a sense of comfort and connection in architectural spaces.

Oslo Airport, Gardermoen
Gardermoen Airport, designed by Nordic Office of Architecture, is a great example of modern Scandinavian design. The airport's expansion, completed in 2017, set new standards in sustainability, achieving the world’s first BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for an airport building. Our durable oak parquet flooring is part of this project, fitting well with the airport's use of natural materials and energy-efficient design. The oak floors, known for their beauty over time and durability, are ideal for busy areas, ensuring they last long with regular maintenance.
Copenhagen Airport, Denmark
Copenhagen Airport, one of the busiest in Scandinavia, has a rich architectural history dating back to 1925, the same year Hørning was established. Hørning has been part of this journey since 1960, supplying Jatoba parquet blocks that have stood the test of time. The airport's design, led by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, features sleek, modern elements that create a welcoming atmosphere for travellers. The Jatoba floors, with their rich, warm tones, enhance the look of the terminals while providing a durable surface that can handle the daily wear and tear of thousands of passengers year after year.
Arlanda Airport, Stockholm
Arlanda Airport, north of Stockholm, is a large facility that has seen significant expansions over the years. The new Pier F, designed by KHR Architects, features a light and airy structure with an extensive use of glass and steel. Our high-quality Jatoba floors add a touch of natural elegance to the modern design and are made to handle the heavy foot traffic typical of international airports, ensuring both beauty and functionality.

Bergen Airport, Norway
Bergen Airport, the second busiest in Norway, underwent a major upgrade with the addition of a new terminal in 2017. Designed by Nordic Office of Architecture, the terminal features a striking design inspired by the surrounding fjords and mountains. We provided custom wooden flooring that enhances the terminal's architectural beauty. The use of Jatoba timber in the flooring not only adds warmth to the space but also fits with the airport's commitment to sustainability and the use of natural materials.
Floors for Generations
Hørning's involvement in these airport projects shows our expertise in delivering high-quality wooden flooring solutions. Our floors not only meet the tough demands of busy environments but also contribute to the overall design of these modern transit hubs. As airports continue to evolve, Hørning remains a trusted partner in creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Since then, we have expanded with other interesting references such as Venice Marco Polo Airport and Queen Alia International Airport, Jordan.
